United States Bowling Congress to Move Headquarters to Arlington

The deal has been sealed. The United States Bowling Congress will move its headquarters to Arlington, bringing nearly 200 jobs and $13 million in capital investment to Texas.

Following the state’s announcement of a $693,000 award from the Texas Enterprise Fund, Arlington Economic Development Manager Robert Sturns said the city is preparing for the next and final step in the process. Full Story

City Would Gain $1.4 million From Lease

A proposed parkland gas lease would bring the city more than $1.4 million in bonus money.
The lease with Carrizo Oil and Gas would be for about 95 acres of public land near the University of Texas at Arlington, including Johnson Creek Linear Park, Fielder Park, Doug Russell Park and Arlington Cemetery.

Building of Toll Road Fast-tracked

How important is the construction of the Texas 161 toll road for traffic flow at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium in Arlington? Important enough for Dallas-Fort Worth planners to gamble more than $200 million in local funds to get the project under way.

Last week, the Transportation Department opened bids for the toll road's main lanes from Texas 183 to Interstate 30. The best bid was $215 million by Williams Brothers of Houston. The Regional Transportation Council agreed to pay that amount, plus $12 million to ensure that frontage roads are built over railroad tracks in central Grand Prairie.

Arlington's Glorypark Project Won't Be Finished for Dallas Cowboys Stadium Unveiling

The 1.2 million square foot Glorypark development will not open in time for the unveiling of the nearby Dallas Cowboys stadium as originally planned.

Developer Yaromir Steiner told business leaders, college officials and students attending the University of Texas at Arlington Business Week luncheon Tuesday that the opening of the mixed-use project has been delayed from fall 2009 to March 2010. The Cowboys stadium, which is just few blocks away, opens in fall 2009.

Drugs Found in Watersheds of 28 areas

"At least one pharmaceutical or byproduct was detected in testing within the watersheds of 28 major metropolitan areas, according to an Associated Press survey of 62 major water providers and data obtained from independent researchers."

Some of the areas covered by the research are as follows:

Arlington, Texas: 5 (unspecified drugs)

Atlanta: 10 (including caffeine, sulfamethoxazole, diltiazem, acetaminophen, trimethoprim, cotinine and paraxanthine)

Cincinnati: 4 (gemfibrozil, ibuprofen, sulfamethaxazole and ethinyl estradiol)
